  • BLU: GEN 2025

Over the past few weeks, the Student Council has been hard at work driving the Blu:Gen initiative — a friendly yet impactful recycleable trash-collecting competition that aims to promote environmental awareness and responsible waste management across all Year 1 – Year 9 classes. The main focus of the competition was the collection of used plastic bottles, which are later sent for recycling through a recycling firm, Rekosistem – in its SCBD branch.

Every two weeks, on Wednesday mornings, the SC members organize a collection drive. Each class’s contributions are gathered and weighed, with points tallied for the then-ongoing competition leaderboard. The process always started with a wave of energy as the SC, equipped with gloves and large plastic collection sacks, visited each classroom to pick up the trash bags that students had been filling over the previous fortnight. Members carefully check that only recyclable plastic bottles are included before sealing and labeling each bag according to its class origin.

Once all the bags were assembled, the SC teams coordinated the transfer of the collected recyclables to the designated storage area. From there, arrangements through Lalamove are made for transport to Rekosistem SCBD, where the bottles are sorted and processed for recycling. Seeing those neatly tied bags of bottles ready to leave campus always feels rewarding, a visual reminder of the collective effort our school community has put in to help reduce plastic waste.

Throughout the campaign, the SC has also been instrumental in raising awareness about the importance of sustainability. Announcements during morning assemblies and creative posters around the corridors have encouraged students to participate more actively. Some SC members even take on the role of Blu:Gen ambassadors, motivating their peers and reminding them that every bottle counts. At the end of the competition, Y5T won
for the primary division and Y7A won for the secondary division!

The Blu:Gen competition isn’t just about collecting trash, it’s about nurturing a mindset of care, accountability, and collaboration. Through every collection drive, our students are learning that small steps, when taken together, can lead to a much greater change for the environment.

“Blu:Gen — where the new generation thinks green.”
