NHJS MUN 2026: Navigating a World in Flux
On 8 August 2026, NationalHigh Jakarta School (NHJS) hosted NHMUN 2026, marking the school’s first-ever offline Model United Nations conference. The conference brought together 58 delegates across three councils, welcoming students from schools including NHJS, ACS, BSJ, Springfield, Penabur, SIS, SLI, and many more.
Throughout the conference, delegates stepped into the roles of diplomats, representing their assigned countries and engaging in discussions on pressing global issues. Each council explored a topic that required delegates to consider complex humanitarian, social, and demographic challenges.
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) discussed “Addressing the Aging Populations in Highly Developed Countries in the Global North,” focusing on the challenges associated with aging populations and possible policies to support aging communities.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) addressed “Establishing Frameworks for the Permanent Return and Sustainable Housing of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Gaza,” encouraging delegates to explore long-term solutions surrounding displacement, housing, and sustainable resettlement.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) discussed “Ensuring Humanitarian Corridors and Child Protection in Densely Populated Urban Battlefields,” highlighting the importance of protecting children and ensuring humanitarian assistance reaches vulnerable communities during conflict.
Across the three councils, delegates engaged in fruitful discussions, moderated and unmoderated caucuses, negotiations, and resolution-building. Delegates were challenged to defend their countries’ positions while collaborating with others to develop practical and sustainable solutions.
Beyond the formal debates, NHMUN also provided an opportunity for students from different schools to meet, exchange perspectives, and experience the collaborative nature of diplomacy. The conference emphasized not only public speaking and debate, but also negotiation, critical thinking, teamwork, and compromise.
As NHJS’s first offline MUN, NHMUN 2026 marked an important milestone for the school. Seeing 58 delegates come together to discuss global issues, negotiate with one another, and work towards shared solutions was a meaningful reflection of what Model United Nations can offer.
NHMUN 2026 was more than a day of debate. It was an opportunity for students to engage with international issues, challenge their perspectives, and learn from one another—creating a foundation for future conferences at NationalHigh Jakarta School.
