    PREFECTORIAL BOARD INVESTITURE CEREMONY

NHPB Welcomes a New Generation of Student Leaders

The NationalHigh Prefectorial Board (NHPB) continues to serve as an important platform for developing young leaders, providing students from Years 3 to 7 with opportunities to grow in confidence, responsibility, and service. Guided by its commitment to leadership excellence, the NHPB follows a structured selection process designed to identify students who demonstrate leadership potential, dedication, and a strong commitment to the school’s core values.

Becoming a prefect is both a privilege and a responsibility. Applicants undergo a comprehensive application and selection process in which their character, commitment, leadership potential, and adherence to school values are carefully considered. Through this process, the NHPB seeks to ensure that students entrusted with leadership responsibilities are prepared to serve as positive role models within the
    school community.

Once the prefects are selected, another important part of the leadership journey begins—the election of the Head Prefect and Deputy Head Prefects. Through this democratic process, prefects have the opportunity to choose leaders who will guide, support, and inspire the team throughout the academic year. Beyond selecting individuals for leadership positions, the election provides students with a meaningful experience of responsibility, participation, and democratic decision-making.

A highlight of the NHPB calendar is the annual Investiture Ceremony, which formally marks the transition from one generation of student leaders to the next. This year’s ceremony was held on 14 September 2026 at the NH Multi-purpose Hall, with the entire student body and faculty in attendance. The occasion provided a fitting opportunity to recognise the contributions of the outgoing prefects while welcoming the newly appointed team.

The ceremony took on special significance as Mr Ang Hwee Khoon presided over the investiture. More than a formal ceremony, the event represented the continuity of the NHPB and the passing on of leadership, experience, and responsibility. It also reaffirmed the values that have shaped the Prefectorial Board over the years, captured in its enduring motto: “Initiate, Work, Lead.”

This year, the NHPB proudly welcomes 57 prefects, including its newly elected leadership team. Reinata Hartono of Year 7 Integrity assumes the role of Head Prefect, supported by Deputy Head Prefect 1, Avril Rumiko of Year 7 Integrity, and Deputy Head Prefect 2, Jacqueline Stella Widjaya of Year 6
    Teamwork.

As the new prefects begin their term of service, they take on more than titles and responsibilities. They become part of a continuing tradition of student leadership—one that calls them to step forward, work together, and lead by example.

Through its structured selection process, democratic leadership model, and annual investiture tradition, the National High Prefectorial Board remains committed to nurturing responsible, confident, and service oriented young leaders. The 2026 Investiture Ceremony therefore marks not simply the beginning of a new leadership year, but the continuation of a legacy built on initiative, teamwork, responsibility, and service.

With “Initiate, Work, Lead” as their guiding motto, the new prefects now begin their journey—ready to make a difference, one act of leadership at a time.
