Blu: Gen ELC-Y9 Activities Day
Blu: Gen is a whole-school initiative that aims to foster recycling habits, promote basic hygiene practices, and raise environmental
awareness throughout the school community. Through a variety of fun and interactive activities, the initiative encourages students to understand the importance of proper waste disposal, recycling, and maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
On 7 October, Year 7 to Year 9 students participated in Blu: Gen activities featuring games such as Sort-the-Trash-Right and
Bottle Cap Toss. These games allowed students to learn about responsible waste management while engaging in friendly
competition with their peers. By incorporating environmental education into enjoyable activities, students could better
understand how small, everyday actions can contribute to a more sustainable environment.
The initiative continued on 21 October, with the Early Learning Centre (ELC) participating in games such as Eco Target Toss and the Bottle & Ball Bowling Challenge. Meanwhile, students from Year 1 to Year 6 took part in Know-the-Corners, a Blu: Gen Jeopardy game, and Recycling Relay.
These activities were designed to make environmental learning accessible and enjoyable for students across different age groups, encouraging them to develop an early understanding of recycling and environmental responsibility.
In addition to these activities, students attended a presentation highlighting the current state of the global environment. It explored pressing environmental issues, particularly global warming and the increasing problem of littering and improper waste disposal. The presentation aimed to raise awareness of how human activities contribute to these problems and encourage students to adopt more environmentally responsible habits in their daily lives. Beyond the games, Blu: Gen emphasises the importance of developing lasting habits that extend beyond the classroom. By encouraging students to dispose of waste correctly,
recycle reusable materials, and maintain good hygiene practices, the initiative hopes to inspire meaningful changes in their daily routines.
In addition to the Blu: Gen activities, there is also an ongoing bottle collection event for the entire school – three winners will be
determined, two from the primary division, and one from the secondary division. Currently, we have already accumulated over
20.000 bottles. Years 10 through 12 will also soon experience their Blu: Gen Activities Day on Wednesday, 11 November 2026.
Overall, Blu: Gen provides an engaging platform for the school community to learn, participate, and work towards a common goal. Through continued awareness and collective effort, the initiative aims to cultivate a greener, cleaner, and healthier school environment for everyone.
