Young Leaders’ Convention 2026 “Breakthrough”
A breakthrough is the moment someone chooses to move past fear, doubt, or personal limits. Starting middle school can be challenging because students face new responsibilities, unfamiliar situations, and greater expectations. This year’s Young Leaders’ Convention encouraged the Year 7 students to step outside their comfort zones, believe in themselves, and grow into more confident leaders.
On the morning of 23 July, the Year 7 participants arrived with excitement and curiosity. They were welcomed with energetic cheers and icebreakers that helped them feel more comfortable and connect with their assigned families. After lunch, the theme was introduced to the participants with the help of the Governing Committee and the SC Mentors. followed by the first round of team-designed games. These activities challenged the participants to communicate, cooperate, and support one another.
One of the main activities was the signature YLC scavenger hunt, where families explored the resort while solving clues and completing different challenges. Later, Mass Dance brought everyone together through music and movement. The participants then worked on their Team Design Game (TDG) 2 planning, where they shared ideas and prepared creative performances. The first day ended with a campfire, barbeque, and reflection session, giving students the chance to think about what they had learned.
The second day began with a morning stretch before the participants joined the Masterchef challenge. Each family worked together to prepare their best dish while practising teamwork, creativity, and time management. Later, they presented their TDG 2 performances and continued with TDG 3, which included exciting water games and outdoor activities.
The afternoon continued with pool time and the auction, followed by the memorable Finale Night. Families celebrated their achievements through performances, awards, and shared moments. On the final day, the participants visited the Mini Zoo then proceeded to say goodbye to their new friends and reflected on how much they had grown.
YLC 2026 showed that leadership is not only about guiding others. It is also about listening, adapting, encouraging teammates, and having the courage to face challenges. Through every activity, the Year 7 students learned that every breakthrough begins with the willingness to try.
