“Exploring a museum is like embarking on a journey through time; each exhibit unveils a chapter of history, and every artifact is a storyteller, whispering tales of our shared heritage”.

Year 12 students had the opportunity to visit historical museums in Jakarta on Friday, November 3, 2023. This activity was organized to provide the students with an engaging experience and to enhance their knowledge in the world of Indonesian banking history as well as their artistic abilities.

The first stop was the Bank Indonesia Museum located in Taman Sari, West Jakarta. Year 12 students explored the Bank Indonesia Museum to learn about the history of banking in Indonesia. They witnessed exhibits such as the Metamorphosis of Bank Indonesia’s Logo, Gold Monetary Room, and Numismatic Room. Additionally, they were guided to experience the events of the 1998 monetary crisis in Indonesia.

Following that, the students visited the Kite Museum in Cilandak, South Jakarta. There, they embarked on a museum tour to observe a collection of historical kites from around the world, not just from Indonesia. They watched a video detailing the history of kites in Indonesia and engaged in enjoyable activities such as painting umbrellas, Wayang (shadow puppets), and kites. This activity brought immense joy to the 12th-grade students.

    Student’s reflection:

    1. Visiting the Museum Bank Indonesia and the Museum Layang-Layang was a captivating and enriching experience. The Museum Bank Indonesia provided a fascinating journey through Indonesia’s economic evolution, showcasing artifacts that vividly depicted its monetary history. Transitioning to the Museum Layang-Layang, I explored the vibrant world of kites, discovering their cultural significance and witnessing the artistry behind traditional kite-making. Both museums offered distinct perspectives, creating a well-rounded and memorable field trip that deepened my appreciation for Indonesia’s rich heritage.

    1. The field trip I attended to the Kite Museum and Bank Indonesia Museum provided me with an extraordinary opportunity to see and learn about Indonesia’s history. One of the moments I cherish is when we painted on wayang (shadow puppets). It was beautiful to see the natural colors come to life. I truly appreciate the teachers who gave us the chance to explore Indonesia’s history, and I hope other children can experience this field trip as well.
