Honouring Our Journey, Moving Forward Together
A warm and joyful atmosphere filled the NationalHigh Jakarta School Auditorium on 6 June 2026 as the school community gathered for the Year 6 Commencement Ceremony. With the theme “Honouring Our Journey, Moving Forward Together,” the event celebrated the students’ completion of primary education, the memories they have treasured, the friendships they have built, and the achievements they have gained throughout their journey from Year 1 to Year 6.
The ceremony was hosted by Andersen Salim from Year 7 Passion and Quin Januardy from Year 7 Integrity, who are also the older siblings of commencing students Aiden Salim and Luna Januardy. Their presence brought warmth and a personal touch to the celebration.
The programme opened with a family video and a growing up video, which brought everyone back to the students’ meaningful years in primary school. These videos captured their growth, joyful moments, class memories, and the many experiences that shaped them as learners and young individuals. This was followed by the academic processional led by the school leaders and teachers, and the proud entrance of the Year 6 Grace and Year 6 Excellence students.
The Year 6 students led several meaningful parts of the ceremony. Cheng Qianya from Year 6 Excellence confidently conducted the Indonesian National Anthem, Indonesia Raya. The students then performed the Doxology, creating a reflective moment of gratitude. They also sang the School Anthem with pride and recited the Piagetian Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to the school’s values of Passion, Integrity, Adaptability, Grace, Excellence, and Teamwork.
In his opening address, Principal Mr Ang Hwee Khoon commended the students for their growth, resilience, and holistic development. He recognised not only their academic achievements but also the character and values they had developed throughout their primary school years.
Guest of Honour, Mr Tan Yap Kwang, also delivered an inspiring message, encouraging the students to face the next stage of learning with confidence, perseverance, and integrity. A special highlight of the event was the signing of a commemorative plaque to mark the 20th anniversary of the partnership between SEAB and NationalHigh Jakarta School. This meaningful moment celebrated two decades of collaboration and shared commitment to quality education.
The award presentation recognised students who demonstrated outstanding character, strong values, academic excellence, and steady progress. The SIMBA Award, First Honours, Second Honours, and Third Honours were presented by Ms Aileen Acabado, Dean for the Primary Division, and Mr Jorge Alcantara, Dean for Curriculum. The commemorative plaques were presented by Mr Tan Yap Kwang, with the assistance of Ms Shirin Salleh, Vice Principal.
The SIMBA Award was presented to Emily Lois Tanuhandaru for best exemplifying the Piagetian values. Emily was also awarded First Honours and later delivered a heartfelt message of gratitude on behalf of the commencing cohort. Second Honours was awarded to Reinata Hartono, while Third Honours was presented to Eliezer Melkyzedeck Suhardiman. Their achievements reflected their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to learning.
Each Year 6 class also shared a heartfelt class video, showing treasured memories, friendships, and special moments from their primary school journey. The presentation of commencement certificates was led by the class mentors: Ms Jaspreet Kaur Malkit Singh and Ms Larsen Buccahan-Saulo for Year 6 Grace, and Ms Pricilla La Torre Corleto and Mr Fang Bin for Year 6 Excellence. Each certificate was presented by Principal Mr Ang Hwee Khoon, with the assistance of Mr Rizki Reza, Local Principal for the Primary Division.
As each student walked across the stage to receive their certificate, their commencement photograph was displayed on the screen. It was a proud and touching moment for the students, parents, teachers, and the whole school community.
The ceremony also recognised students through the Best in Subject and Most Improved Awards. These awards celebrated both excellence and progress, reminding everyone that growth comes through effort, consistency, and determination.
The Best in Subject Awardees were Emily Lois Tanuhandaru for Mathematics and Science, Eliezer Melkyzedeck Suhardiman for English as a First Language and Bahasa Indonesia, Cheng Muqing for Chinese as a Second Language, and Arviel Henryson Indraguna for Foundation Chinese Language.
The Most Improved in Subject Awardees were James Darsono for Mathematics, Cheng Muqing for Science, Alexandra Judono for English as a First Language, Naomi Gold Taniwan for Bahasa Indonesia, Jasmine Lukman Tjaij for Chinese as a Second Language, and Sean Christopher Santoso for Foundation Chinese Language. Lennard Vink Nagasaputra was recognised as the Overall Most Improved Student.
In her Vote of Thanks, Emily Lois Tanuhandaru expressed sincere appreciation to the school leaders, teachers, parents, and fellow students for their guidance, support, and encouragement. Her message reflected the gratitude of the entire Year 6 cohort and the memories they will carry with them as they move forward.
A significant part of the ceremony was the formal confirmation of commencement by Mrs Daisy Yiu, Chairperson of the Board of Management. She officially declared that the Year 6 students had successfully completed their primary education, marking the beginning of a new and exciting chapter in their learning journey.
One of the joyful highlights of the ceremony was the batch performance of Safe and Sound by Capital Cities. Through singing, flute and clarinet performances, and lively choreography, the students celebrated the friendships, memories, and experiences they had shared. Their performance captured the spirit of the theme beautifully. It reminded everyone that while their primary school journey has come to an end, a new journey is ready to begin.
The ceremony concluded with a closing prayer led by Reinata Hartono and James Darsono, followed by a group photo session with the Board of Management and the recessional march. Families then continued the celebration through photo sessions and refreshments, sharing this proud milestone with their children.
The Year 6 Commencement Ceremony 2026 was a meaningful celebration of completion, growth, achievement, and gratitude. It honoured the students’ primary school journey and the memories, friendships, and values that have shaped them along the way.

As you move on to secondary school, may you continue to learn with courage, lead with kindness, and face every new opportunity with confidence.
